International Maritime Organization (IMO) global sulphur

cap for more than 60 years, when shipping-bunker fuel

moved from coal to fuel oil.

Since then, the IMO has continued its efforts to significantlyprevent pollution in marine and shipping operations(MARPOL) by reducing sulphur emissions.

By 2020, the IMOwill cut sulphur limits in marine fuels from 3.50% to 0.50%by weight.2
